Victoria to Salt Spring Island, B.C., Canada 2019
Dennis Morley surprised everyone when he took us to a small island off another island in yet another country, Canada. He and his wife Karen and sister Denise were assisted by the first younger rally generation, Tatianna Abastoflor and Colin Taylor, Roger's son, in the hope that the tradition will continue on. We arrived by ferry and ended up taking another ferry at the end of the day, after cavorting through Victoria's clock towers, parks and landmarks, singing a song to a pub waitress and retrieving a box of chocolates before our final ride. The theme was "Time," and rarely was there a clue site, from watch repair shops to church bell-towers, that did not have something to do with Father Time. Salt Spring Island, somewhat remote, promised a calm lake beset with amazing sunsets, great food and company. Around the island, you could visit wineries, craft beer makers, cheese shops and the work of pottery artists before heading to the impending, makeshift regatta of row boats and kayaks. A fantastic time was had by all in a place we would not normally have seen in our lives.
