In 1993, Chip Moore and Laura Ewing, soon to be married, had moved to Boca Raton, Florida where they launched the first Road Rally that was out -of-state for most participants. No one else resided there except for a few otherwise dispensable acquaintances. The headquarters moved naturally with the planners, which was a boon for the idea of making the project multi-state. Where the planners resided, the rally would go. There was a respectable number of participants (17!), and other than a team having to break into the planners' apartment in mid-rally to retrieve a clue, things went well. We languished in the Florida humidity, sweltered on the white beaches of Ft. Lauderdale, and partied in South Beach. Chip's enchiladas topped off the awards ceremony, and we all ended up at the Hotel Fontainebleu on the last day. There was room to spare in the walk-in closet. But just barely.
