San Pedro, Belize 2012
RLG segued his success in Rallopoly Austin with an international venture that was exclusively in a foreign country: Belize. At his side were Jay Hughey and Amy Chance, who by now has made Belize her second home. The rally was based on the Mayan Apocalypse, and RLG wrote the clues in a few weeks' time. The teams sported distinctively labeled and colored T-shirts and rode around San Pedro island in golf carts. Because the island was spread out, the teams unsealed their clues much as they had done in Rallopoly, and occasionally ran into each other, with much comic effect. At a mid-point the teams converged at an open air bar, where a member of each team was required to bolt down a stiff drink. I was elected and we would have won that clue had my glass not left the surface of the bar, per the rules. Needless to say, I was ineffective for the rest of the day.
The party wended its way between beer boat rides ( from which one of us jumped unexpectedly, twice) and dancing at the hotel bar. The food was prepared by locals and was delicious. There was no end to the revelry.
After the rally, many of us toured the country of Belize and Guatemala, each with its cave adventures and fantastic Mayan ruins.
