For the first time, someone else took the torch and planned the next segment of the Rally. Ray Vela and Laura Ewing, stung apparently with a yearning for masochism, planned a third rally in 1990, this one on on Labor Day weekend, the first to occur then, and where it has for the most part remained throughout the years. Television and occupational themes abounded, and teams covered much of the cool aspects of Los Angeles, including Greystoke mansion, the Hollywood cemetery and a sperm bank. This marked the first time the hosts supplied decent accommodations beyond the usual mess of someone's small apartment, Jamaica Beach Inn in Marina Del Rey. The participants numbered fifteen.
